Pi-Con Aftershock!
Let's get right into it. A LOT of people bailed on the con due to Hurricane Irene. That said, we still filled the room (with apparently most of the con deciding the best way to survive the impending doom was debase themselves with libations, leading one arriving guest to announce "Oh, so this is where the con went!")
I would also like to point out what seemed to be an awesome turning point. In the past, we've been known to throw a barfleet PARTY or two. But for the first time, I got the feel that people were really getting what it means to be at a BARFLEET party. Guests have started to figure out some of the cues and their responses are becoming reflexive... except on Vulcan (WHICH WE SEEM TO HAVE MISPLACED!). When we officially promoted Wrong Solo from Ensign to Lieutenant (long overdue, since his dogtags have had the rank engraved on them for two years now!) to raucus applause and excitement. Everyone eagerly pitched in and ad-libbed for the (already at liquid capacity) new Lieutenant when he forgot his cue. Everyone seemed to really get into the spirit, and I finally felt at peace with my role in the process.
A huge thank you to all the crew who worked the party, to all the guests who made it a success, the con staff who were thrilled to have us back, and the hotel staff who not only allowed us to do what we do, but took it in stride when they had to clean up the two huge handles of Jet Fuel that I dropped in the front doorway (much to my embarrassment). To be fair, they may have been a little too tipsy from the fumes to careā¦
A special thank you to those who keep coming back. You are why we do this.
